The Examen

There seems to be something good and helpful about taking time to pause, reflect, and evaluate how things are going.

At our Thursday youth group meetings, we have a traditional way to start the night called, "check-in." Each person has the chance to reflect on how their week is going and share those reflections with everyone else. Sometimes check-in is quick; sometimes it lasts way too long. Some stories are serious (like car accidents or worries), and some stories are simply hilarious (usually told by Josh).

Last night, Sarah and Amanda introduced everyone at youth group to a way of praying that can serve as a nightly "check-in" with God. It is called The Examen and is a big part of Ignatian Spirituality.

Here is the prayer card everyone was given.

We've all accepted the challenge to pray through this reflection every night for a week! Will you join us?
